My "Money Dance"

I know-- both the song and the ad campaign that uses it are, quite literally, about money. In contrast, this piece is about mindfulness and meditation, but that doesn't mean there isn't something the two (or three) might share in common.

To me, the "money dance" is simply about expressing enthusiasm, or celebration. Some people celebrate money, while others celebrate mindfulness and meditation (I definitely fall into the second category-- so does MLCCG, and this blog)!

Why? Because all of us--especially lawyers-- live in our minds all day, every day. And, curiously enough, we don't really understand the mind. Equally important, most of us don't appreciate how the mind can impact the body-- they're truly interrelated.

To be clear, I am not talking about mental or emotional health conditions that are medically diagnosable and treatable-- that is the province of trained health professionals (of which I am not one). But, anecdotally, for every one woman or man who may be afflicted by a medically recognized disease, there seem to be dozens who are just off their game a bit or are struggling with a challenge that hasn't (yet) risen to the level of a diagnosable disease.

What about those other people? Aren't there any tools that might help them mitigate their pain? Of course, there are-- mindfulness and meditation are two such tools, and for my money (pun intended), they should be more widely understood and better taught.

I've talked and written a lot about both mindfulness and meditation, but I recently saw a short YouTube video-- narrated by Dan Harris-- that says pretty much the same thing in a slightly different way (along with some entertaining cartoon content), so I thought I'd share it with you: https://youtu.be/w6TO2g5hnT4.

Enjoy Dan's simple explanation and join me for a "money dance" on the cushion!
